New District Executive

FROM– Steven K. McEwan, Scout Executive/CEO, Revolutionary Trails Council

I am happy to report that I have hired Robert Wiechecki, Jr. (RJ) as the new District Executive for the Adirondack Foothills District. RJ will be managing the daily operations of the ADK District, along with running the 2015 Day Camp. RJ comes to us from the Cradle of Liberty Council in Philadelphia, PA, where he served as both a Quality Unit Executive and a District Executive.

RJ grew up just outside of Philadelphia in Plymouth Meeting, PA. He received a dual Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Religion from Lycoming College in Willamsport, PA. He started in Scouting as a Cub Scout, and later achieved Eagle Scout in 2008. In his spare time, RJ enjoys running, linguistics and is dedicated to simple living.

RJ will start working for the Revolutionary Trails Council on Monday, June 1st.

Scout Meeting Plans for Wednesday 5/20/2015

We will be meeting at Greenlawn Cemetery (next to Jay-K Lumber) at 5:30 PM to place flags on veterans’ graves. We will then be going to Parry Jr. High for a swim night from 6:30 to 8:30. Several of scouts have requested that we work on swimming merit badge. For those who are working on swimming merit badge, you need to have a pair of long pants and long sleeve button shirt. You will be using these to make survival floatation. The requirement calls for you to jump into water over your head and remove your shirt and pants. Then inflate them as an emergency floatation device.

Also a reminder that summer camp fees are due by next week.

Family Picnic

Michelle Connelly has agree to coordinate this year’s family picnic.  It will be held on June 17 starting at 6PM at St. Thomas pavilion 150 Clinton Rd., (just down the road from Myles School).  The troop will provide the hot dogs, hamburgers, condiments and rolls.  Each family is asked to bring a dish to pass, desert or soft drinks.  Please let Michelle know your head count and what you plan to bring.

Summer Camp Prep

Some of you still owe payments for Summer Camp, and after June 1st the price goes up by $25. Please have a check made out to ‘Revolutionary Trails Council’ to Scoutmaster Obernesser by the May 27th Troop meeting. Also, if your son has not had a medical physical during the 12 months preceding summer camp, he must have a new one. The BSA Medical form and OTC medicine form are attached.

IOLS Training in May 2015

This is outdoor adult leaders training. I know there are several registered leaders in Troop 4 who need to complete this to be trained. This training is the second part of the Adult leaders training. Any parents who would like to become leaders or frequently go on outing should consider attending this program.

Greetings Scoutmasters,

Council will be running a IOLS training course May 15th through 17th at Camp Kingsley. If you have any leaders interested please contact the Scout office, Mike Coughlin (lcmc@twcny.rr.com) or myself. The cost for this training is $20 and sign up by Monday May 11th. Also if there are any volunteers that would be able to assist with the training please let Mike or me know and what area of training you would be interested in helping with. You can find the link to the syllabus here.

Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS)
Working as patrols, this hands-on course provides adult leaders the practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors. Upon completion, leaders should feel comfortable teaching Scouts the basic skills required to obtain the First Class rank. Along with Scoutmaster Specifics this course is required of all direct contact leaders registered in Boy Scout Troops and Varsity Scout Teams, in order to be considered “trained.”
