Troop hike on Saturday!

All: We will be meeting at 9:30 at New Hartford (Sherrill Brook) Town Park for a hike and lunch. Turn left after entering the park. Go past the gazebo and look for us. The hike will be around the park trail loop approximately 2 miles. Older scouts will be paired up with newer scouts to help them with the 1st year skills. Bring a water, a trail snack, FA Kit, compass, Scout Handbook and your lunch. We will make a campfire. If you plan on cooking something you should bring the appropriate cookware. The weather is forecast to be sunny and 50. It is the first day of spring so the weather could be unsettled. Be Prepared.

Virtual meetings

This Wednesday we will resume virtual troop meetings from 7 -8 PM. This week we will be working on Citizenship in the Nation and Tenderfoot and 2nd Class skills.

I will send you a link by email prior to the meeting.

I would like to do a hike on either Dec 5 or 12. Need ideas for a place and theme. We could do fire building, cooking, compass etc.

Upcoming Events

We will be placing Scouting for Food bags this Saturday starting from the NH American legion at 9 AM.   We need your assistance with this annual good turn.  We will not have a traditional meeting next Wednesday, (Veteran’s Day).  Instead we will be meeting at 2:45 PM at the NH Veteran’s Memorial across from Utica National in support of the American Legion.

Next Thursday and Friday we have an opportunity to collect food for Feed our Vets at Chantry’s market on French Rd.  More info on Weds.  Saturday Nov 14 we will be collecting the Scouting for Food bags.  Again, we need everyone to help out.  Following the bag pickup, we will be going to Camp Kingsley for our annual thanksgiving fest and an overnight.  Scouts staying overnight must have a parent or guardian to stay, (Oneida County Health Dept rule).  I need a head count ASAP.

Lastly, we were notified last night that the popcorn delivery is delayed due to covid.  We expect delivery in mid-Dec.

Troop News

First, we have two new Eagle Scouts. Max Horowitz passed his Board of Review yesterday and Nick Fostini passed his Board of Review today. Congratulations to both of you! Anthony Mozloom has completed his Eagle requirements and will be submitting his Eagle paperwork this week. Cody Gadway will be working on his Eagle Project at St. Thomas Church this Saturday from 9 -3:30. He is about halfway done with painting the picnic tables and BBQ area. If you are available stop over an give him a hand.

Next week we are moving the meeting time from 7 to 8:30. We will be meeting in the basement of the rectory/church at St. Thomas. There are plenty of classrooms to spread out. Please wear your mask.

Heidleberg Bread orders were originally due tonight, but many scouts didn’t receive them. The new due date is Nov 4th.

Scouting for food is Nov 7 & 14. Ed Heiland has made arrangements for us to be at Chanatry’s on French Rd. Thurs Nov 12th and Fri 13th to collect food. We will set up 4 shifts over these 2 days. We will need at least 3 scouts and 2 adults per shift.

November campout following Scouting for Food will be at Camp Kingsley. We will pick the date next week. We are planning our traditional Thanksgiving meal campstyle.

September Meetings

Hope everyone is doing well.  Due to the virus it is unlikely that we will be allowed to use Myles School this fall.  With this in mind, we have gotten permission to use facilities at St Thomas Church to start the season.  I would like to have a planning meeting with scouts and parents on Sept 2 at 6:00 PM to kick things off.  We will be meeting outside at the pavilion.  You must wear a mask and practice safe social distancing. We will have hand sanitizer available.   My initial idea is to have meetings outside from 6 to 7:30 to take advantage of the sunlight for the first month or so.

By this time, you should have received the Popcorn Order forms.  The cost of everything is going up including annual registration to the BSA.  We will need to have each Scout earn $150 for the troop treasury.  This means you would need to sell about $415 to fulfill your responsibility.  Any sales profit beyond the $150 will be held in your name in the troop treasury for summer camp 2021.
