Fill The Trailer to Stop Veteran Hunger

The Mohawk Valley Association of Realtors is sponsoring “Fill the Trailer” in the fight to Stop Veteran Hunger at Chanatry’s Market on French Rd, Utica. The event will be Saturday July 18th and Sunday 19th from 9am to 3pm.

Non-perishable foods will be accepted by Feed Our Vets with the goal of filling their 20 foot trailer. In 2014, Feed Our Vets fed 1,900 registered veterans, with spouses and children this number was just over 4,500 with 98,988 pounds of free food distributed. This year, they are expecting to feed 2,200 veterans and will give out approximately 135,000 pounds of food.

We need your help in fighting this war. They gave for you, now it’s time you give to them. Thank you for your support in feeding our hungry and homeless military veterans and their families, right here in central New York.

Please contact Mike Stoquert at 315-724-5159 for more information.

12th Annual Sporting Clays Tournament

As announced on 6/17, the Council fund raiser Sporting Clays Tournament is scheduled for Saturday July 18 at the Clinton Fish and Game Club. If adults are interested in participating please contact the Scout Office or John Devlin who is chairing this event. Scouts who would like to help out during the day on Saturday will be given instruction Friday evening and be able to shoot after the event on Saturday afternoon. I need a list of scouts who plan on camping out Friday night so that I can secure the tents. The plan is to meet at the Fish and Game Club about 6 PM on Friday July 17. We will not be providing food on Friday evening. Scouts will be fed Saturday AM and lunch. Please let Scoutmaster Obernesser know if you will be attending by July 15.

Community Service Opportunity

Here is an opportunity for service time and a chance to visit the Utica Zoo. If you are interested please notify Mrs. Lott and copy Scoutmaster Obernesser as well:

Mr. Obernesser,

I am on a committee that is planning what will be a huge event at the Utica Zoo on August 29th. The event is “Cultures & Creatures” and it is going to be a celebration of all the MANY different culture communities that live in the Mohawk Valley (European, African, Middle Eastern, Asian) and our local, beautiful zoo.

Many businesses large and small are involved as sponsors and volunteers. Right now they are lacking volunteers who will specifically help with the clean-up. The event runs from 11am-7pm and the Executive Director of the Zoo is expecting approximately 6,000 visitors for the event.

I am writing to see if your troop would be interested in volunteering to help with the clean up? The scouts could arrive around 5pm to enjoy the event, and clean up should begin around 6pm. The director feels it will probably take from 6-8:30pm. She will provide gloves and garbage bags for the volunteers to walk around the Zoo (in pairs would probably be good) to pick up garbage, etc.

Again, it’s happening on 8/29, and the clean-up crew would need to start at 6pm and will probably need to be there until about 8:30pm. There will be shuttles running from MVCC and the Parkway, but I am guessing that as volunteers the scouts could park up in the Zoo parking lot.

Please let me know what you think. It would be a great experience for the scouts and a nice way to earn some community service time!

Boy Scouts Waterball on Thu 6/11/2015

Please let Scoutmaster Obernesser know if you are interested in this event.

Dear Troop leaders:
Once again we are hosting an event at the Deerfield Fire Dept. Field Days that we would like to invite your boys to. On Thursday June 11th at 6PM will be our Annual Boy Scouts Waterball Tournament. We invite you to join us with a team of 4 or more to do a round-robin tournament with all the troops who show up.

We are set up on the track behind the Deerfield Fire House. We have a ball on a wire overhead. One team is on one end and another on the other end. Each have a hose and try to spray the ball to the end away from you so to win the round.

At 7pm, the Firefighters Waterball will then start. There will also be the Field Day rides and food available afterwards. Please bring a change of clothes and come have some fun!
