The BSA and Oneida County Health Dept require a current physical to attend summer camp. If you have had a physical after July 15, 2012 with a doctor’s signature on a form other than the official BSA form, we can accept it provided you fill out Parts A & B on the BSA form. If you have not been to the doctor within the past year please use the BSA form. We need to have a copy prior to going to camp.

Spring Trip Notice
Here is a recap of the info for the Spring Trip to Boston for those who are going:
We will be leaving from Myles School at 12:30 Friday May 24. We plan on making at least one stop at the first rest area on the MassPike. We are staying at Camp Sayre in Milton, ( about 7 miles from downtown Boston). We have reserved 2 cabins with bunks and mattresses, so you only need a light sleeping bag. The camp has showers which are open 24/7 in the Eggan Center,( about a 10 min. walk from our cabins). There is also a pool and full Scout Shop in the Eggan Center. There is a possibility that we could get some pool time.
Saturday we will be walking the Freedom Trail, visiting most of the famous landmarks in Boston. Sunday we will be going to the Aquarium and then the Science Center. Each day we will be riding the “T” into downtown. On Monday we will be stopping at the Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge. We should be home by dinner time.
We have six drivers with 4 /vehicle. Do not over pack! You should bring a light sleeping bag, bathing suit, towel, toiletries, change of underwear and socks, class B shirts, light jacket hat. You must travel in Class A shirt to be covered under the BSA travel policy! You will be wearing your Class A while in Boston.
Ben will hand out a copy of cell phone numbers. Scouts will be assigned to groups with adults. There are 13 scout and 11 or 12 adults. The troop will supply a continental breakfast each morning and dinner Sat and Sun. Scouts will be responsible for buying their own lunch both Sat. and Sun.
Scouts should eat before leaving on Friday and bring a ‘bag lunch’ for dinner on Friday. Spending $$ is up to you, but please make sure your son has enough for the two lunches in town. All prescription meds. need to be handed to Mr Wilbur when arriving at the school.
Memoral Flag Placement
We will meet at Greenlawn Cemetery, (next to Jay-K), at 6:00 PM this Wednesday to place American Flags on Veteran’s graves as a service project for our sponsor, American Legion Post 1376. This usually takes about 40 minutes. We will then go to our Troop Meeting at Myles School in the Gym.
Fundraiser Reminders
Pancake ticket $$ and any unsold tickets are due at the troop meeting this week. Sat May 11 is the day of the event. We will need scout and a few adults to work 2 hour shifts starting at 07:30. Adults are needed for parking and supervision.
Fund Raising Opportunities
Myron Sierson, Chris Sierson’s Granddad, has set up a Camp Card sale at Stewart’s located between Myles school and Clinton on Rte 12 B for this Friday afternoon from 4-7 PM. Any scout interested in helping out will split the profits toward summer camp. Several scouts indicated that they were interested in this opportunity to earn $$ toward camp. Mr Sierson can be reached at 853-1229 or cell 272-6330 for additional info.
NH Rotary Pancake Day ticket sales are due in at the next Troop Mtg May 8. Each scout received and is responsible for 10 tickets= $80. Scouts can sign up for service hours at the May 8 meeting. Scouts are needed from 07:30 to 11:30 Sat May 11. We will try to schedule 2 shifts 07:30 to 09:30 and 09:30 to 11:30.
End of the Month Reminders
We will have a brief committee mtg prior to the troop meeting on Weds to discuss the spring trip, summer camp and other upcoming events. As always parents are welcome to attend.
We will be doing our ’Scouting in the Community’ community service project this Saturday. This project involves spring clean up at the New Hartford American Legion and at the New Hartford Veteran Park opposite Utica National. We will be meeting at the Legion at 9AM. All scouts are expected to participate with the exception of those attending NYLT.
Following the cleanup we will be going to Camp Russell for an overnight. This may be the last opportunity this spring for new scouts to ‘sleep in a tent which you have helped to pitch’ for your Tenderfoot requirements. If you are planning to attend the overnight please bring $5 cash per person for food. We will need drivers to and from both events. Parents are welcome to campout Saturday night.
Lastly, we need a final head count for both Summer Camp and the Spring Trip. If you haven’t spoken to me about these events please do so Weds.
April Meeting Update
After a week of school break, we are back to having our Weds Troop mtg. John Devlin and I will be meeting with the Legion at 7 PM to present them their Unit Charter and picking up a check to support our year round program. We should be back to the school by 7:45. Before leaving your son at 7, make sure that there are at least two adults at the meeting.
I will collect Boston Trip fees. The cost of the weekend is $75 for scouts and leaders. I need a final head count!
I will also be collecting the Camp Card $$. Hopefully you have sold all of them.
Lastly I need to hear from a few of you if you are attending summer camp July 7-14 at Camp Russell. Summer camp is highly recommended. It is a lot of fun and learning in the out of doors. I have a couple of camp brochures and will be happy to explain/discuss what to expect.
Spring Trip Update
The Troop Committee met last night and firmed up details for the Spring Trip May 24-27, 2013, (Memorial Day Weekend). Assuming we do not use any more ‘snow’ days, the boys will have Friday May 24 off from school.

Sunday: Visit to the Science Center and Aquarium
Monday : Depart for home and stop at the Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge. Arrive in NH around 4 PM.
We are car pooling and therefore need drivers. The troop will offset the cost of fuel. The cost of the trip for scouts and registered leaders is $75/ person and $125 for others. Meals from Saturday Am through Monday noon are included.
We need a min. $25 deposit per person and driver commitment ASAP so that we can complete our plans. Deposits can be paid at the next Troop meeting.
Swim Night
Myles open house is this Weds Mar 20. We will be meeting at Perry Jr High for swim night. Our meeting will start at 7:15 with swimmer safety training. 8 Point Swim Defense will be reviewed. We can get in the pool about 7:45. We will work on 2nd class and 1st class swimming requirements for all new scouts. Please review these requirements prior to Weds. As always, parents are welcome to attend and participate. Troop 101 will be joining us.
Important Reminders
This is a reminder that we will be selling Camp Cards and Popcorn at the NH American Legion from 4 to 7 PM this Friday. Scouts who attend will share the sales profits which will be used to offset the cost of summer camp.
The Eagle Court of Honor for Anthony Pandolfo is 2 PM Sunday at St. John’s on Oxford Rd in NH. All new scouts will be formally inducted into the troop as part of this of this ceremony.
