Pancake Breakfast

Please bring in the money for the Pancake Day sales this Weds. and give it to Ben O.   We will be setting up the work schedule for Sat AM at the troop meeting.  We normally have scouts work 2 hour shifts starting at 7:30 and going to 12:00.  Scouts may work extra hours for service hours.  Everyone is expected to help out except those involved with NYLT Staff Training.

Notices for this Wednesday

All:  I will not be available for this Wednesday’s meeting as I have tickets for Rent at the Stanley.  There are a number of things going on over the next several weeks.

Next Saturday April 29th– 30th – Beaver Day at Camp Kingsley and Saturday night over night.  We have a lot of projects at camp and need everyone help.  We are making this our April campout as well.  We will be sleeping in Seneca Site Leantos.  Plan on arriving at Kingsley by 8:30 AM.  Wear old clothes and be prepared for the seasonal weather.  We will depart on Sunday by 9 AM.  There is no cost for this outing.   Chris O.  will be collecting names.

Money for summer camp is due this week.  I believe I spoke to everyone at our last meeting regarding how much you owe. Check must be made out to Leatherstocking Council.  If you have sold camp cards your profit toward summer camp is $5/each.  Deduct this amount from the amount you owe.  Camp Card sales has been extended, however you should bring the sales to date in Weds and give it to Robin Fostini.

Money for the Spring Trip to Gettysburg on May 5-7 is also due.  Scouts are $50, adults are $100.  Kirk Evans is taking care of this.

Lastly, the Council Camporee is May 19-21 at Camp Kingsley.  The theme is conservation.  We need headcount for this event on Wednesday so that I can register the troop and get a site.  Ni money is needed until May 17.  Please respond to this email with a yes I am going or no I cannot make it.

No Meeting this Week

As announced, there will not be a troop meeting this Weds. due to a concert at Myles School.  Our Java scouts however are having a spaghetti dinner on Weds to raise money to go to the international robotics competition.  It is being held at the Masonic Park on Halsey Rd. in Whitestown.  For more info contact FJ Wadnola or Kirk Evans.

Forestry Merit Bage March 21 2017

PLEASE USED FORESTRY MERIT IMAGE

Conservation Project Opportunity and Forestry Merit Badge

There is a project in Clinton where scouts are needed the first week in April.  The project is to check Clinton for emerald ash borer (EAB) with the foresters from the NYSDEC Division of Lands and Forests.  Scouts, leaders, and adult family members are needed.  We will be with DEC forestry staff, Girl Scouts, SUNY Morrisville State College students, and Hamilton College students walking down streets throughout the village.  While it will be very difficult to determine EAB damage at this time of year, we will initiate an urban forest inventory of the ash trees in the village to revisit them for signs of damage in the future.

There will be a training in the evening of Thursday, April 6th that is appropriate for scouts.  Then on Friday and Saturday, teams will be going throughout the village to see if we have EAB in any of the ash trees that are publicly visible.  Scouts with leaders or family members will be teamed up with foresters and college students to check different areas of the village.

Scout will primarily swing into action on Saturday the 8th.  There will be other groups helping too.  I will be working with the initial survey on Friday the 7th, working out the “bugs” in the methodology.

Interested?  Please contact Brendan Kelly at kellybt@morrisville.edu for more information. If you have safety vests, please bring them.
